So you have left your travel plans late or you have just
discovered that you need to find a last minute flight
sale, so what do you do? I would suggest you do some
shopping around. Never take the first offer and do not
panic into taking the first offer. flights are a buyers
market so remember that. Do not be bullied by any travel
agent into thinking that is just one seat left, you can
never see the computer data to see if this is true so
you can be sure it's not.
Flight sales are common with the major airlines and
they can be offered at any time especially if the market
is slow. This could be because of the exchange rate or
maybe there is a recession on and people prefer to stay
at home so they can watch their budget more clearly. If
you have to travel under these circumstances then you
are in pole position to take advantage of a last minute
flight sale.
Flexibility is the key. I know that you cannot be
flexible with dates too much especially if you have to
fly at such short notice, but what you never do is
inform the airlines or travel operator of your
circumstances. You need to come across as completely
flexible, you are in no rush to book. If the travel
agent or airline finds out that you have no choice but
to fly on such short notice then they are in complete
control. They can see you are a desperate traveller and
will do you no favors when it comes to getting a good
flight deal.
Last minute flight sales will come along if there are
a lot of seats still available. the airlines will not
want to fly with empty seats because there is no profit
in them. So what they do is contact the flight
specialists first, not the normal travel agents and give
them a list of flights that they can discount. They may
make less commission than normal but this does not
matter to them. Profit is profit to them and they may
look on the fact that you will come back in the future
to use their business again.
So for last minute flight sales just focus on the
flight specialists, do not accept the first offer, and
most of all do not inform them that you are in a rush.
Just come across as being flexible with dates and see
what flight ticket bargains you can get.
